I'm new to raising chickens, no birds yet, just reading up and predators are my biggest concern.

I understand a person not wanting to kill any thing whether it's a predator or not, but feel I should warn others about trapping and relocating ... most states have laws against this.

It's against the law in most states to transport wild animals. Even raccoons, possum, squirrels etc.

Hefty fines along with the loss of hunting/fishing licenses.

Yeah, I know the people who do it have good intentions, but...

Design coops for your birds that do the job of protecting them safely. Chicken wire is designed to keep out (or in) CHICKENS...nothing else. It's not called raccoon wire for a reason. An open pop door at night time is an open invitation to the midnight buffet. A run fence could be 20 ft. high and if not secure (covered on top/built w/substantial wire) a raccoon can be over it in under a minute - they can climb like monkeys.

I agree - don't make your problem someone else's.
