Trashcan for grain stored in coop?

I wish I had taken a pic the other day -- I'd left the lid off the scratch grain can, and the next morning there were FIVE eggs inside, in a perfect circle. I love my girls...

That's a great idea!

I was also thinking about using trash cans for feed storage in our coop, but instead storing them under the poop board beneath the roost. That way they are covered and out of the way!

I would be very careful about putting anything in the coop with your chickens. I put a metal trash can in my coop for feed. It was situated in the corner so there was a gap behind it. One of my chickens fell/flew behind that trash can. She couldn't get out and died. If your going to do this then make sure that the trash can is away from the walls and there is space for them to walk around it.

This is what I do with my big storage cans - but in my garage. I do keep one kitchen sized garbage can of feed in the coop though. For some reason my girls never jump up on it??? It has the flip type lid, so maybe they've jumped on it before and the lid's flipped up, sending someone flying?
