Traveling from US to Italy with chickens and back to US again. Any tips??

Early next year I have the opportunity to bring several bantam chickens from the US (California) to Italy for a TV show. I will be there for less than a week, and then returning back to the US. Has anyone recently traveled to the EU and back again with Chickens? Or has anyone imported chickens recently from Italy?
I have read as much as I can about the requirements on bringing Chickens into the US from Italy but it’s still very confusing, and I would love any information or help that anyone has!

I don't have any experiences yet, but I would suggest bringing good food and water for the chickens.
