treated lumber? no good?

Welcome! We used the old CCA (copper/chrome/arsenic) wood for turkey shed floor (covered with congoleum remnant so no direct contact with birds).

Seems the Yellawood has two formulations; one for fence posts and the like that is CCA and one that is primarily copper and a danger only to fasteners that aren't stainless steel.

Should be able to determine from markings on the wood (if any) which formulation you're dealing with.

Yes, the CCA is arsenic based and the EPA started a transition away from it several years ago, although I'm not sure if there is a complete ban against it yet. The newer treatments are copper based and are safer.

When building my coop I decided against treated wood.

Instead I put a good coat of paint on the surfaces that touch the ground.

I am raising my flock chemical free No antibiotics, No medicated feed.

I worried the chemicals from the treated lumber would leach into puddles that the chickens would drink from.

My coop is made of treated wood. I covered the floor with a large tarp to make it easier to clean and to make the floor last longer. I did build roosts with 2 x 4's, but I used untreated wood for those, since they are out of the elements, and thats what they have direct contact with.

I decided not to use treated 4x4's or any other treated wood in the run area. I did use treated 2x6's under the floor of the coop though. Since treated materials can leech into the soil I don't want these chemicals ingested by the chickens no matter how small the amount of contamination may be. People that burned alot of treated wood in their wood stoves have had known medical problems due to just breathing this stuff. Just my 2 cents.
