Treating Botulism? **UPDATED*RIP Spike

OKrobin,

if you want to cover all of the bases, you can read the thread DLUnicorn posted earlier:

http://dlhunicorn.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=casestudiesemergencies&action=display&num=1160927052

but i agree with threehorses, if its working...keep doing what you are doing.

fyi, on my girl: i contacted alan stanley (he is in the thread above) and he said give 1/2 ground aspirin, (though prescription prednisone is better,) if it is from head trauma. and my lucy ate about twice as much today as ever since she had aspirin last night.

threehorses: thanks for responding to my post, i started adding yogurt yesterday too. so something is helping. our state vets poultry expert said he doesnt think its contagious and sounds like a trauma so i am taking her off the tetracycline after today.

i am going to try the sling ideas from Three and HappyChick. i am so glad you started this thread and so happy for spike.

Oh I'm very glad to hear of her progress! I hope it was an injury, too, and that she's on the mend. That would be a relief over something contagious! Good job!

here is the sling for spike i finally got set up- laundry basket, scrap of strechy material - i need to put litter in it too- its easy to take outside and hose down- i have to devise a top, since the other silky doesn't understand and wants to sit on top of him....sheesh

about noon he began eating and drinking, i started him on selenium, vit b ontop of the normal stuff, he is now looking around and showing interest- thought i was going to lose him for sure- keep praying for the little guy

Sheesh, that was scary. Honestly since it just coincided with the sling, I'd take him out and put him the way he was before. Maybe it stressed him too much?

you may be right- i didn't put him in it today- course having puddin keep trying to get in to him couldn't help either- he's eating and drinking again- so hopefully this was just a one time thing- will have to get the pics uploaded from today....

spikes update for tonite- not sure- he has preened very little, eating some oatmeal, but is sleeping alot and seems to be gaping alot, i get the sense he is struggling to breath- he will open his eyes when i talk to him- any suggestions or is he just fading?
