I also want to know when chickens molt! I thought I read in their second year but I could be wrong!

A great tip I pick up on this site was to feed chickens pumpkin seeds. Their suppose to be a natural de-wormer. Talk about being organic.

Take some droppings to your vet and they can float them to see if they actually have worms and if so what kind. It costs me $10. You will spend farm more than that on a dewormer and may be doing it unnecessarily. Also, there is always the risk of accidental poisoning of chickens as you typically have to calculate the ammount of wormer to put in their drinking water. I've heard some horror stories. ><

Thanks everyone

I'll try the pumpkin seeds this fall. I thought you had to worm your chickens every year, is there any way to tell if they have worms with out taking them to the vet.

After the first year will they molt in the spring or fall?
