Hello,
New chicken mama here. I just got five young pullets around 12-14 weeks of age around 12 days ago. A few days ago one of them showed signs of CRD. Wouldn’t come off her perch, her left eye was watery/ bubbly and she would keep it shut. Her nasal cleft was completely blocked and vet had to flush it out. She is currently on Amoxicillan 100mg a day (50mg two times)she has been quarantined for 3 days now and is showing some improvement. Her eye still seems watery and she is still weak. She’s eating and drinking.
Thing is,now 3 of the others have been making the same sneezing sounds. Shaking their heads to clear their nasal passages. Some have crusty yellow goop on their nostrils. When I listened to their chests I could hear the wheezing and rattling. One even had a bubble in her nose. They are all eating and drinking fine right now but I don’t want to wait till they no longer are. The vet bill was $200 for the one chook and I just don’t see that as an option for the rest of them. I read on this forum that Tylan 200 should work on URD.
So my question is dosage. These guys are probably about 2-3 pounds max. What would be the dosage of Tylan 200 given orally? The chook that is being treated with Amoxicillan, should I discontinue and put her on Tylan 200 as well?Only one chook remains asymptomatic at this time. Should I treat her prophylactically? Is oxytetracycline 200 the same as Tylan 200? That’s what is available at my tractor supply store

Welcome to BYC. Are you in the US or elsewhere? Unfortunately, amoxicillin will not treat mycoplasma (MG or CRD.) Tylan or tylosin, oxytetracycline, doxycycline, tiamulin (Denagard) are usually prescribed for it.

Is there a bad odor around the head? Some of the symptoms sound like MG, but some sound like coryza. Coryza has a bad odor. Both are chronic and will make carriers of the other birds. Coryza is usually treated with sulfa antibiotics, such as sulfadimethoxine or sulfamethazine, or bactrim. Your vet should be able to do testing or contact a lab to do it.

Here is a good list of common diseases if you want to compare MG and coryza:

Yes I’m in the US. I’m at the tractor supply and they only have the oxytetracycline 200. Any idea on the dosage?
She had a faint sick smell all over her when she was very sick. She’s not smelling weird any more.

Did you mean that TSC had the Tylan 200 instead of the oxytetracycline? The Tylan 200 is a bit hard to dose. It is 200 mg per ml. Usually we give the 50 mg per ml (Tylan 50.) With the 50 we give 0.25 ml per pound of weight orally 3 times a day for 5 days. With the 200, the dosage would be 0.052 ml per pound, or about 0.26 ml for a 5 pound chicken. I prefer oral dosage rather than injecting it in chickens. Another type of Tylan is the oral powder for the water which is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days, and is sold here:
https://www.jedds.com/shop/tylan-soluble-100-g/

It ships in 2 days.
