Hi All,
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section...new to the forum.
I suspect one of my hens has Gapeworm, she has been segregated for 8 weeks! she can't speak, stretches her neck, wheezes and shakes her head...nothing in her stool and is active (normal), laying daily.
I purchased Panacur 10 percent oral solution to treat but not sure of the dosage...searching forums and google provides WAY to many contradictions.
Simply put...how much of the medicine should I give and duration for treatment?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hi, and welcome to BYC. The dose is 30 mg/kg for five consecutive days.
30 mg/kg = 0.14 ml per pound of bodyweight.

Hi, thanks so much for the reply.
In the diagram it states 30 mg of fenbendazole/kg. My pancur states:
Panacur Suspension is a 10% suspension of fenbendazole as a ready to administer oral anthelmintic for cattle, sheep and horses., Panacur Suspension 1 ml contains 100 mg active ingredient fenbendazole.
So...as I understand it, this mean if she weighs 6 lbs (2.94 kgs) I should dose her at 900 ml of solution for 5 days.

The math is:
6 pounds / 2.2 (converts to kg) x 30 (mg/kg) / 100 (mg/ml) = 0.82 ml

So give 0.82 ml (okay to round up to 1 ml) for five consecutive days.

Well after 5 days of treatment, unfortunately she doesn't sound better. Not sure where to go from here, she still seems fine...everything normal accept the plaguing wheezing and open mouth breathing.
Anything else I can try to narrow down what her issue is?
Thanks!

We tried an antibiotic before the Panacur. The treatment of Panacur has seemed to increase her wheezing...not sure why that would happen. I think we will wait and see what happens in a couple of days. By all accounts she seems good...just the constant wheezing.

Thanks for your assistance!
