Treating Niacin deficiency - question on movement

@Miss Lydia It’s been quite the day. After talking to multiple vets we were on the verge of deciding to euthanize her. She was at our local rural vets office for most of the day and when we finally went in at closing time to talk to the vet (they squeezed us in after CSU only offered euthanisia for $300) they gave us the option to surrender her to the veterinarian. The vet has a farm with rescue ducks and chickens (we had no idea). They couldn’t tell us what the future will hold for Gemma but they did say there was a possibility that the vet would take her to her farm and try other treatments. Euthanasia is also still a possibility but now the vet will be the one to decide. She said her condition is congenital and the supplementation was not going to be a cure. I’m emotionally drained but I do feel like this is best case scenario. It’s hard not knowing what her future will be but at least she has a chance. I’ve been working on integrating Willow (the sweetest and gentlest duck) with our two sassy Silver Appleyards. It’s going ok but I can tell she is sad to lose Gemma, as we all are. Thank you everyone for all the support and kindness through the past few weeks, it’s meant so much.

I hope so too. I think they will we made some good progress today. I’m still having Willow sleep in a clear plastic tub with them overnight so they don’t have full contact. Separating Gemma and Willow really breaks my heart.

I know but you did what needed to be done for Gemma, we are so limited in what we can do for our birds. Thankfully you found a vet willing to try, so many won't even see a bird. That is the way it is here. I hope you have peace that you did all you knew to do for her. :hugs

thank you @Miss Lydia I am finding some peace. Willow is doing well. Strawberry and Waffles will still charge at her on occasion but it seems fairly harmless and Willow always goes right back to what she was doing seemingly unbothered. Our daughter is making sure she gets extra tlc.
