Howdy! First post here! I’ll be brooding 30 Rainbow Rangers in a brooder that has previously been used, so I’m assuming the presence of Coccidia. The previous egg laying flocks I have brooded I have never used medicated feed, nor a preventative dose of Corid, with good success. But as I get more chickens I assume there is more Coccidia present. The chick feed I prefer to use is nonmedicated, so I was considering a preventative dose of Corid instead. Most guidelines for this application are for egg layers and take preventative treatment well beyond what the processing date would be (11 weeks or so). So, would you give broilers a preventative dose (1/2 tsp Corid per gal) if not using medicated feed? And what would the schedule be considering the processing date? Or, the option I was going to go with before someone told me to use medicated feed: put some dirt in the brooder after they’ve been in there a few days until they go outside (3-4 weeks) hoping they’ll have been exposed to it all by then and the strongest will survive? Thanks!
