treating reovirus

is anyone familiar with Reovirus or have you ever had to treat? I have a couple of lame birds that I take good care of, and a vet told me over the phone that I was possibly dealing with Reovirus. It affects the joints and causes lameness among some other things. I want to medicate them asap. can anyone help me? erf

It states:
Transmission: The infection spreads rapidly through broiler flocks, but less rapidly in caged layers. Spread is by respiratory and digestive tract routes. The virus is shed in the feces.

Treatment: There is no satisfactory treatment available. With hens, tetracycline, molasses, and oyster shell therapy is helpful.

Prevention: A vaccine is available for use in endemic areas or on endemic farms.

Have you thought about trying the tetracycline, molasses, and oyster shell therapy? If I had to guess, I would assume that the tetracycline treats secondary infections to allow the bird's body the strength to fight the reovirus, the molasses provides extra energy and acts as a flush to rid the body of toxins, and the oyster shell provides extra calcium to strengthen the bones. It's worth a shot.
