Treating suspected tapeworm

Hi dawg53, many thanks again for your help before with the tapeworms. It has been just over a week and I have not seen the fragments since worming. Coming up to the second dosage soon, I have noticed the hen that had the problem still has a pale comb. Her poos for the most part have looked more solid but she has not been herself. A little withdrawn, not as active, less interested in food but laying daily. I am worried about her and have been keeping an eye on her poop which was reddish brown this morning. Could this be coccidiosis? It doesn't look like the medication is readily available. I was thinking to get her poop tested to be sure but the local vet couldn't help me. Suggested that I just treat her as it would be cheaper than testing anyway. Do you have any advice? She seems mostly OK but just a bit off. I am worried to worm her again if she is not well and the withdrawing of food again may do her more harm than good.

I recommend giving her plain boiled white rice (Minute rice is good) mixed with buttermilk. Dont forget to shake the container of buttermilk.
Plain boiled white rice looks like maggots and she should scoff them up, it'll also settle her innards. The buttermilk is an excellent probiotic and coats intestinal lining and helps deter coccdiosis until corid can be given. It is also easily absorbed in the digestive tract. Dont give her yogurt, it tends to run out the rear end.
Give it to her for a couple of days to eat and see if there's improvement and keep an eye on her feces. Make sure the mixture has cooled before giving it to her.
It might be best to buy a bottle of corid in case you need it.

Hi dawg53, thank you for your suggestions. I will try the rice but buttermilk is not readily available here in Aus. I don't suppose you know of any substitutes? I have been giving them ACV in their water on and off and garlic too.

ACV doesnt do anything and I'd stop the garlic as well. You can mix cottage cheese with the rice. Cottage cheese is a good probiotic as well.
