Treating Wry Neck In Crested Duckling *EDITED TITLE*

Qwackers came home with me last night. We're headed back over to play now. My plan is to let her play outside today, bring her home again tonight. Then, outside for good tomorrow as long as the weather cooperates.
I will have to figure out another method for giving her vitamins. I'm thinking about a drop of nutri drench on a piece of bread each day. Putting it in her water would be a waste, that stuff isn't cheap.
That's a good idea on the bread, I use bread to give any number of meds to my flock, even my dogs love bread maybe they think their poultry. Just a small piece is all it takes. How is Qwacker doing now she is completely off the pred now right? she looks great. you could probably cut her vitamins down to 3X a week then gradually cut it down to 1X a week as long as she is doing good. and I couldn't see the other fencing so I think along with the guard dogs your good.

Qwacks will be 8 weeks old on Thursday, I am going to continue the vitamins until she is 10 weeks. From what I have read 0-10 weeks is when the risk of deficiencies are the worst. While I am pretty confident that her wry neck was brain swelling, still better to be safe than sorry and continue the vitamins. I will do like you suggested and gradually wean her off, like I did with the pred. They are all on the flock raiser now and seem to like it. I am going to experiment with fermenting in a few weeks, I got barley to start fodder as well.

Over the summer I am going to start buying the hardware cloth as I find it on sale. There is a person at one of the local farm swap meets that gets it occasionally and sells it cheaper than the hardware stores. I want to start collecting the materials to put a roof over the run as well. Oh also planning to make a covered run for daytime. It won't be dog proof. Just a large community area for the chickens and ducks to have to forage in and enough room to have a large pool. I have all of the wire for that, just need the metal fence posts and aviary netting. Wow...the ideas and projects never end...

Well, it's official...My nest is empty

After almost 8 weeks of nursing my sweet duck baby it was time to let her enjoy being a duck. I never expected to get so attached

Yesterday when I was packing up to go home I grabbed the pet carrier to get Qwacks. When she saw me coming with the carrier she started running around. Not like she was scared of me, more like "NO WAY you're not taking me away from my new fabulous house!" I sat contemplating for a while and decided she could stay, she seems so happy outside. After a VERY long sleepless night I found her perfectly happy snoozing in her house when I got to work this morning.

It is SO quiet around the house now, no chicks or ducks to tend to. Even my dog Adele walks around whining like she is looking for them. Now that they're in their new home taking care of them is easy peasy. I freshen up food and water, do a bit of poo patrol and after about 15 minutes I am finished. I'm ALMOST tempted to go and check out the babies at the TSC.

Just an update on my crew...Qwacks is loving the outdoors and is now much bigger than her adopted siblings. Her posture is perfect with no signs that she was ever sick.

She is getting stronger and her bow-legged-ness has improved as well.

Indie and Raj stay close to the divider so the 3 of them are always together. None of them want anything to do with me unless I have treats. I was expecting Qwackers to be different considering how much I handled her up until she went outside. Yesterday when I was cleaning and feeding the door separating them didn't latch. The wind blew the door open and before I could get over to it and Indie and Raj ran over to Qwackers side. I watched them for a half hour or so and decided to let them spend the day together. Before I left for the day I put them back on their own sides. There wasn't any picking but still didn't want to take a chance of anyone getting hurt.

The jury is still out on whether I have boys, girls, or both. There are no voice changes and no curly tail feathers so for now it's still a mystery...

That is some great news, that Qwackers is looking so good and doing so well loving being outside etc and that all 3 were able to spend the day together. Good to be cautious also. Look forward to seeing some updated pics of the gang when you get time.
