Treatment for blackhead

If you cannot get to a vet and want to use metronidazole you have two options.

  • Buy metronidazole for fish or birds. Google the name of each to find the least expensive source. Note that the Meditrich is only 100 mg. Dose for a 12 pound bird is 250 mg for five days.

  • Go to Petsmart or Petco and get some API General Cure. This has 250 mg metronidazole *and* 75 mg praziquantel. My concern with this is that I don't know how safe it is to give praziquantel 5 days in a row.

Sorry I was gone for so long, my internet was messed up. I could not find the metronidazole at any of the stores I went too. I dewormed him and gave him corid and he perked up. His poop looks more normal now.

Good deal.
It was probably the beginnings of coccidiosis.

If he were mine I would treat for worms, coccidiosis, blackhead, and E. coli. Good chance it's just coccidiosis, but I don't waste time if there is even a slight chance of it being blackhead.

Do you have Corid powder or liquid?
True, treating for all possiblities is way better.
