Hello, 3 week old turkey poult has been sick for the past week or so, finally narrowed it down to canker after discovering yellow lesions under his tongue and his swollen chin. He has been living with other turkeys this whole time so we’re going to treat them all. We wanted to go down the copper sulphate route and was wondering if copper sulphate pentahydrate is safe to use? Thanks! :)

Yes, it can be used to treat canker. Dosage is 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water for 3 days straight once a month to keep it in check. Put it in a plastic waterer/container, no metal waterers or containers. Do not add anything else to the mixture. Do not use more than 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water.

Thank you! We’ve started the process bow, is a ceramic dish okay?

Do you have any pictures of what you are seeing? Canker according to those who have dealt with, has a bad odor. Fowl pox can look a lot like it. Some say that thrush (fungus) may also look similar.
