Treatment for Liver flukes

It looks like my local Tractor Supply has Zimecterin Gold Equine Paste in stock. It’s 0.26oz per tube has 1.55% Ivermectin and 7.75% Praziquantel
Can you ask your vet how many mg of praziquantel your bird needs for flukes?

One ml of Zimectrin Gold = 77.5 mg praziquantel and 15.5 mg Ivermectin.

The most common praziquantel tapeworm dose is 4.54 mg per pound of body weight, which is about 0.3 ml Zimectrin Gold for for a five pound chicken.

The praziquantel dose for treating liver flukes could be much higher, so please do ask your vet what it is.

I will. Thanks for all the advice. I found an avian vet with injectable. Waiting to hear how much it costs

Update: found an avian vet with injectable praziquantel. Gave everyone their injection this morning with dosing provided by the vet. He said to do a second dose in 10 days and not to eat the eggs for at least 30 days after.
If you dont mind me asking; what was the dosage and where did you inject, the breast muscle? What was the cost of the praziquantel for all 15 of your birds?
If you do not wish to reply, no problem.
Good luck and keep us posted how it turns out for your birds.:)

The dosing was based on the weight for each bird. The vet figured it all out for me. For example my smallest hen weighed 973g and the dose was 0.17cc (Praziquantel 56.8mg/ml) intramuscular injection in the breast. They sold me an entire 10ml bottle for just under $200. A lot of money I know, but less than the $350 price I was quoted at another vet.
These are not food production animals to me, they’re pets. If I had any idea how much they would cost me to treat them as such, I wouldn’t have gotten so many. :hmm But they’ve made themselves way too lovable with their sweet and affectionate personalities and I’m stuck now. Even my 4 little silkie roos are ridiculously docile and easygoing. Definitely not getting any more though. No chicken math happening over here!

So glad you were able to do this!

@dawg53, in case you are wondering, that works out to 10 mg/kg or 4.54 mg per pound. :D
