I am wondering if there are any fruits or vegatables that cannot be fed to chickens. Also, if seeds (such as from a diced fresh tomato or cucumber) are bad.

Are there any particular foods that are toxic to chickens? I do not plan on giving animal scraps...just fruit and veggie leftovers and peels.

Thanks!
Keri

There is a treats chart located as a sticky at the top of one of the forums (I think maybe the feeding forum) as a guide. However in my experience, chickens seem to have pretty good instincts about what is good for them and what is not and they will steer clear of things they shouldn't eat.

Except that, unfortunately, they WILL pick up shiny things on the ground like tacks, and eat those. Or styrofoam peanuts. Or caulking in the corners of a coop.

I know they can't have avacodo and citrus isn't good. Table scraps are fine like potato and carrot skins. I feed mine leftover rice and pasta (with sauce) and baked potato they love it!

Thank you for the help. I will avoid avocado and citrus and go from there. Lots of veggie peelings to give.

Are bananas (no skin) ok?

I've always given my chickens meat scraps - trimmed off all the fat, & diced into tiny pieces. No problems for any of my flock.
