Treats for 4 wk. chicks

Have some old cerial left over from my Grandkids that have been here for awhile. Can I leave as is and feed to my chicks or should I grind it up a bit for them. Or should I not feed them at all and wait till they get a little older? Was thinken they have more fun pecking at it, because it's to big for them to swallow whole.

I gave my littluns a full sized cricket early on, thinking they would tear it to bits and eat it. The one that managed to get away from the others for 2 seconds with it swallowed it whole. I'd swear that bug was as big as the bird, but there was no fuss involved in the swallowing. Dry cereal may be a bit harder to get down, though. You'd at least need a bit of grit to make life easier. This isn't honeycombs, is it? Those would be rough.
