Treats for molting season...post those recipes!!

I have always been told you don't give chickens meat or meat based anything. I had been very cautious for a long time as to what I feed. SLowly, I am learning that is not the case and it is beneficial to provide meat products. Thank you for the info!

I have often commented on the tremendous amount of phony information out there about chickens. I strongly feel that this misinformation is a conscious attempt by some so called animal welfare organizations that is meant to discourage the keeping of chickens.

That IMHO is criminal because the people who are doing this are saying that they only have the welfare of chickens at heart. While the truth is that these organizations make Michael Vick look good.

It’s sad, and makes you second guess whose info you trust!

I've been giving (sparingly) dolphin-safe flaked tuna fish in water. I prepare several 'plates', add a bit of water to moisten and set the plates out for my girls. I've only done this during molting, and then, only once or twice a week.

My girls hate Feather Fixer pellets, nonetheless, I mix it with their standard Flock Raiser crumbles and add water to make a mash (takes a while to 'set up'). They'll eat the mash with FF.

I found Nutrena Meatbird Feed at tractor Supply that is 22%. Would that be ok, does it have the right nutrients?
Yes you can use the Meatbird feed. It has all the vitamins and minerals except the high amount of Calcium in Layers Feed. Just offer Oyster Shells in a separate container for the hens that are laying.
I have three 2 1/2 year olds molting. 20181001_125624.jpg I feed a Non-Medicated Start and Grow feed 18% year round with Oyster Shells separately and I find that sufficient to regrow feathers quickly. I don't offer any high Protein treats.
I like a 18 - 20% feed year round like a Starter Grower, All-Flock or Flock Raiser. My Golden Comets feather pick when fed a 16% layers feed. GC
