A few months ago I started this thread about my dad and I turning our treehouse into a chicken coop, well we are finally done (mostly)! We would have finished much much sooner but my dad works a lot, anyway here's some progress:

He built the door and if you didn't notice, he put a frame around the openings so stapling wire would be easier,

Replaced some boards and painted everything,

Stapled vinyl tile to the floor

And stapled chicken wire all around the openings

Kinda rushed through to get that top wire up there, he had to go to work the next day. The back is covered with tarp for now, dad will replace it with wood when he comes back home.

After dumping the sand into the coop, we put the chickens in, here they are greeting me at the entrance

They cried the first night so I had to put their brooder in there so they could sleep.
Here's a video of them in their new coop:

Hehe that's cool! Very nice structure!... What kind of a tree is that, sycamore?

You might want to remove the slide and ladder at night to keep raccoons from getting up there.

Should really use 1/2" x 1/2" hardware cloth instead of chicken wire once the runs done. Sorry I've got coons on my mind, lots of folks having trouble with them lately.

You might be able to use that slide, with some cleats attached, under the coop so they can get to the run when it's done!!

Yup it's a sycamore tree. We will remove the slide once we start building the run for it and make a ramp for the chickens instead. There are a change of plans for the run, it'll still be under the tree house but being extended to the side. I don't think we have raccoons in our area luckily, but I think the only predators I really gotta worry about are hawks and coyotes!

I have a bit of a taller treehouse that I am considering turning into a chicken coop it's about 7 feet off the ground I was wondering if you think that is to tall

Probably not too tall, with some considerations.

Welcome to BYC!

Get a few more posts, you need 10 posts (I think) to post pics, and start a new thread with your ideas, goals, dimensions and some pics of the treehouse.

I was also wondering what kind of flooring I should replace the carpet with because I know that it will smell terable in there if I leav it up there
