Tree Lichen / Algae - is it safe?

Hi everyone

We had a tree come down a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to use some of the branches in my run. The tree has some algae / lichen on it - is it safe to use?

They will love pecking it all off. I had an old Dogloo in their run that my girls would pick at all evening. It did no harm.
