Tree Roost!

thanks for that! if the Muscovy mother would roost in the suspended coop would the mother teach the ducklings to go to the coop at night also?
i would expect that for the period of the mother raising the ducklings i would have to leave the coop on ground level as the ducklings cannot fly am i right?

I dont raise ducks but yes I would assume she would keep them close until grown then they should imprint... I would think you would have to lower it to the ground until the ducklings started maturing than slowly raise it back up over time or they would be stranded, below mom probably would stop using it and find another place to nest with her ducklings ...

just my thoughts like I said I don't raise ducks, but i have always been an idea man

Yes ducklings will have to come into flight feathers before roosting up. Particulars of their parenting behavior need to be addressed with parties that routinely breed them free-range.

say the muscovy mother went broody would i be able to move her to a separate ground coop on the floor for her to nest in and raise the ducklings? when they had flight fethers if i took the temperary coop away would she go back into the raised coop with the others again?
another question i had was although the creek is shallow it is quite fast mooving would the mother take the ducklings into the river and then they drown or get swept away or would the mother know when they would be strong and big enough to go into water?
thanks

Those questions should all be addressed in another thread with "muscovy duck" in the heading so knowledgeable parties will see it to respond.
