Flashpoint...turkeys are very trainable. I can get Daisy through a dog agility course. Well...except for the tunnel. And she tends to hop up on the jumps instead of just flying/jumping over them. But she's great on the weave poles and other obstacles. Point being, your Turkey's can be trained to coop at night. I wouldn't let them start roosting in the trees. Once they figure something out, its hard to change their minds!

R2elk...your right. I was a kid. I remember watching grandpa using that thing. I used to spend days with him at the greenhouses. He'd make me sit on the back of the truck while he used it. Guess he wanted me well out of the way. The greenhouse was my favorite place as a kid. Everyone spoke German. Lots of cats running around. And he'd let me pot up plants. Loved playing on the dirt!

Yippee, another Tennessean! I'm originally from St. Louis. But have now lived here longer. Memphis freaked me out at first. Now I truly enjoy its gritty quirkiness. Especially its music history. Sat next to Robert Plant at a joint one night. Same with George Thurogood & Cyndi Lauiper. Al Green lives less than a mile away. Met most of the local blues guys ( most gone now) like Bobby Blue Bland, Rufus Thomas, Little Milton...and of course BB King. Oh the musical history here is amazing!

Karenerwin...we often refer to our turkeys as "dogs with feathers". They bond strongly to humans and make great pets. We also developed a way to categorize their temperaments:
LAPPERS: Those wanting attention. Like Aurora's Eve who will hop in the hammock with her to snuggle. Or my Daisy who naps in my lap.
TOLERANTS: They hang around & don't mind being picked up but don't overtly seek attention like the lappers.
LURKERS: They too hang out but prefer not to be touched.
BELLYBUTTONS: This is Ralphies term for jerks. Everyone has a bellybutton...get it??

You'll see many of us occasionally refer to our birds in one of the above terms. Except for R2elk who is our voice of reason! LOL!
