I just worry Iris too skinny. She acts fine...just skinny. But then again, I keep comparing them to a hen with middle age spread. Got too hot for flight training. Daisy & Iris are grounded. I think Daisy is a fair weather flyer.
Hot & dry. All fowl wandering around panting. Taking advantage of every fan & wading pool. Daisy is staying grounded, exerting as little energy as possible. Dog days of summer here!
There is an old blues song with a line that perfectly describes our weather..."Hot, hot, hot, as a coffeepot "!
Daisy is "stout", Poppy is getting huge...so thanks for reminding me skinny Iris will be a smaller bird. My perspective is off. She's so delicate compared to the others. I'm starting to allow some of the neighbors to visit. All of them are fascinated with skinny Iris. They all say how beautiful she is....then point out how big Poppy's feet are. Poor Poppy. I think they are afraid to hurt my feelings.
Guess it's time to trim wings. The lawn guys showed up next door & started all their mowers & blowers & Iris blew over the fence! I actually drove around the block. Wasn't sure which yard she landed in. Luckily found her in the first backyard & recaptured her. It's a million degrees out, she's panting, I'm panting and while walking to my van this guy stops in his truck & wants to talk turkeys. Geez. And I drove her home in my lap under the A/C. She got some real height & distance on her flight! I'm blaming Daisy for this!!
Thanks R2elk. Can't have her flying around the neighborhood. As she was launching herself over the fence, Daisy stood on her toes & started flapping. I actually yelled at her..."DON'T YOU DARE"! But upon retrospect, I believe she was cheering skinny Iris on. Poppy promptly got hysterical. So much drama! Iris was easy to catch. Lapper training does pay off. I could tell she was scared & rather glad to see me.
I swear Poppy gobbled....or sort of gobbled when skinny Iris flew off. She was screaming things I never heard a turkey say before....so who knows. Poor Poppy was just beside herself. And Daisy....just continued to graze!
