I have a question: are beards hereditary in turkey hens? One of my BR hens has a beard, and one of this year's poult hens is growing one as well which makes me think they're related.

I'm going to bet its hereditary. May be a recessive gene.

Well that sucks Ralphie. I've noticed an increase in hawk activity here too. Wish i could identify them. Some are huge, some not so big. I need to work on my hawk identification skills. Daisy is the one who sees them first. She then starts that high pitch whine.

By the way....whats the deal with the mosquitoes up here? I live on the delta and they arent as bad!! They are very aggressive!

We did go to East Grand Forks Minnesota for dinner last night. Boy its flat here. And stays lighter much later. Have another layover in Minnesota tonight on the way to Memphis.

Sure is good to be back home hanging with the flock! My turkeys missed me. Daisy took off and flew by me, right by my head, and flew for at least 30 feet. I'm 5'-8" and she was eye level. Never have seen her fly that high for so long. She landed & started doing her little happy dance, hopping & twirling. And since she's molting...feathers everywhere! Not sure what got into her, but she was sure enjoying herself!

R2elk..my uncle lives about 20 miles from Gettysburg. Its beautiful there. I love the old stone structures.
