Raining yet again. Blah. Expecting close to 4 inches. Tired of the mess.
Still no turkey eggs. Boy are they slacking this year!
Sat down yesterday evening. Daisy hopped into my lap followed by one of my teenage Speckled Sussex. Oh the nerve! You should have seen the look on Daisys face. Once she recovered from the shock of this outrageous breach of conduct...She reached over & pecked her on the head quickly eliminating the intrusion. Then she settled down for a nap. I tried questioning her about the lack of eggs...She didn't want to discuss it.

So I'm back in NYC for work. And apparently its raining so hard in Memphis its flooding. I'm so tired of all the rain.
Also discovered I have Barred Owls nesting in my back yard. Been seeing & hearing them for a week. There is as pair. My coonhound pup was the one who spotted the nest. Not sure if he heard or saw something, but he was hanging on the tree watching it. I don't know what to do....

AnneintheBurbs....I sort of looked like that trying to get to JFK yesterday. Fertile eggs! Yippee!
It's early here....I'm looking for those owls. Maybe they were just house shopping & between me yelling at them & being treed by a hound, they decided to move on. I'm not hearing them. Was walking around with my big spot light. Hoping the neighbors are still asleep. I look like a nut case out here staring up into trees with a spot light. My strategy is to harass them into leaving....

Ralph....my little SS are so funny. The flock will trot toward me....but those little guys lower their heads & run like crazy. As fast as those fat drumsticks can go. They are a hoot. Of course Daisy flies to me. Annie will hop up on things, but doesn't fly around like Daisy. Daisy seems to like going airborne. She only gets around 3 feet off the ground, and can land it right next to me. It used to scare me. Thought she was going to fly right into me. But she has pretty good control. So I've learned to stand still while she's on approach. After she lands she does a wing flap & trills. Show off.....

Saw the owl up close & personal yesterday evening. Was getting towards turkey tuck in time & I was sitting in the yard with Daisy in my lap. It soared right over us about 15 feet above us. Daisy saw it first. All birds ran for cover. It landed in the oak closest to my house. Only about 12 feet above ground. I hopped up and ran toward it. It just watched me for a bit. Actually stretched a wing out, rather casually. Finally it flew over to a neighbors backyard tree. I walked toward it & it flew off to a big magnolia. That's when I realized I was running around chasing it with fat/heavy Daisy still tucked under my arm. So I penned my girls. I'm wondering if it's hunting in my yard & nesting in the magnolia. I need to figure that out. I was impressed with it size. Definitely a Barred Owl. No idea of sex. Fully mature bird. A good 24 inches tall. Beautiful feathers....saw that when it stretched out a wing. And silent in the air. Completely silent. It amazes me that you can't hear owls fly especially the big ones.
