I'm amazed at how good my poults are at bedtime. They just march right into the pen. They aren't even getting a bedtime treat for their efforts. I put them up....then go sit in a chair with Daisy for a bit. It's our new routine. She's gotten to the point where she hops into the chair to wait for me. Now tell me turkeys are stupid!

Hey...sad update on those two guineas we had to catch. The owner decided that he could let one out of the pen at a time. The reasoning was that it wouldn't leave his yard because the other was still in its pen. Then, as it got dark, he would go pick it up & install it back into the pen. Well, he scared it and it flew over his back fence & got killed by their dog. I would have loved to see that dogs face when a guinea fell out of the sky at its feet. So the poor remaining guinea cried & cried. He finally rehomed it. For some reason this guy was convinced they would become tame & behave like chickens & just hang out.

My little girls are so funny. My backdoor squeaks when I open it. They hear it & start heading toward me. If I call them, Iris flies toward me. But the funny thing is as I step off the porch toward them, they turn & head for their pen. This is the third day they've done that. Thought it was a fluke. They only do the pen march in the afternoon. They can't possibly be that trained...yet! I lock them up so I can get the dogs out without a tragedy. Once they are settled, Daisy & I go for our stroll & enjoy some lap time, just the two of us. She needs her " special " time. She tells me all about her day.

She still hangs with me. But doesn't like to be hugged. She will perch on the arm of my chair, or sit next to me on a bench. She will let me give her a snood scratch. I have to warn the neighbors not to touch her & why.

Thought Iris was dead last night. She was SOUND asleep in a dust crater. I walked right up to her & she didn't move until I said her name. She was in the sun. Thought she roasted herself. But she hopped up, and is fine. Guess free ranging wore her out.

Our heat index has been over 100 this last week. Its wearing me out. I think the birds are over it to. Poor things stand around panting & holding wings out. And they are in shade with wading pools & fans. If only the humidity would lift a bit & give us a break.

Poppy is now taller than Daisy. Not as "round" yet! Boy she's a moose! And skinny Iris is still a skinny little thing...but very outgoing! All three are really good girls. I'm giving Daisy the credit.

Oh know ....lappers are pets. I couldn't butcher one either Molpet. Doesn't bother me in the least raising turkeys for food or sale. That's probably more normal than having them as pets! I have the few girls...and they are just pets....and I blame Daisy.
