Tried Everything, No Eggs....

Oldhen, it's been like this all year - I got the same amount of eggs in the winter. I haven't seen any sign of molt yet, but did take that into account. The girls have LOTS of shade - there are some trees along the two sides of the pasture that create a huge shady patch, the coop is elevated so they can get under it, and they can go in the barn as well. Thanks for all your suggestions!

I guess they could just be bums. My guess is you have a couple of consistent layers, and a few that are sporadic layers. Best laying is seen in their first year. Most mass production egg producers cull their whole flock after the second season because production drops dramatically for many hens. By 4 years many hens are spent.

How much of your flock is the red comets? In my experiences sex links will just quit laying after about 2 years, and that's it from them. Heritage breeds often will lay less per week but continue to lay longer into their lives.

Hmmm.....hidden nest in there maybe?
I saw a picture on FB chicken page. Lady was wondering why she had a sudden drop in egg production, then she found the nest where some of her birds were laying. There was like about 30 eggs all up in a dark corner. lol
