Trimming Nails?

After giving her a good look over, it appears she's missing about two toe nails, I think. She probably broke them off, they were so long. Her feet look just horrible. I hope a nail trim and Vaseline solves the problem, but it just looks so bad! I'm even questioning my decision to get her. I hope I can solve her problem.

1.) I checked her vents, and she's got lots of mites. I went ahead and dusted her.

Yeah, actually. I held her in one arm and trimmed with my free hand. She has a gentle personality so far - calm, laid back. I think she's going to make a great hen once she's all better.
