Hi.. So my Polish hen's poof is keeping her from being able to see much and I wanted to trim it around her eyes to help her. Does it matter how short I trim? I don't want to cut too short and it bleed or anything.

I don't keep crested breeds anymore, but when I had my Sultan I would trim back all the soft stuff and leave the part that feels more stiff. Then you can snip back just a little more if it appears she still can't see.

As long as there are no blood feathers you can trim them back as far as you want. Blood feathers will still be growing and encased in a feather sheath. I generally trim mine back to 1/2 to an 1 inch long. They always grow out a few sprigs. My polish are much happier being able to see, and are less reactive.
