Bought 6 Rhode Island Red chicks from Cal Ranch back in March. I think only one is giving me these big eggs. The rest are small to medium eggs. When I check the nesting box each morning there is usually one giant egg and 4 little ones!!
That is so cool and very rare! We have three five month old Americauna pullets named Hazel, Amelia, and Zoey. I've had chickens for years and have only got double yolks a few times. Awesome!
Hi, hope your girls are doing well. I picked up a couple Easter eggers today ( rescue) and am excited to see how they do. Do yours always lay the same color eggs or different? These pullets look like they are close to laying. I have a niece who thinks I'm pulling her leg about having a chicken who will lay a blue or green egg so I'm getting excited to see her face when it happens.
Crazy question but I'm new and not sure about eggs and hatching. But if that double/triple yoker was fertilized and sat on by a hen would two/three babysitting chicks hatch? Logically im thinking yes, duh, but then again im not sure if that is the way it is for chickens. Sorry I feel dumb asking but always wondered.
Hi, my understanding is that multiple yolk eggs rarely if ever produce twins or triplets. I guess it makes sense that inside an egg is not large enough to properly house and feed two or three chicks without them feeding on each other.
