triple yolks?

I can't imagine an egg with a 9" diameter! That's a huge egg, well I guess it would have to be with 5 yolks in it.
The only problem with double yolks is that there are only so many eggs a hen can lay in her life. I'd rather get another whole egg than one double yolker!

new at this here so if one lays a double does she miss the next day?

i still want one just so i can say i have seen one as ive seen pictures but have trouble believeing it !!!!

From what I have read here, A hen has every egg she will ever lay inside her when she is first hatched. Logically, if she layed a double yolker everyday, she would lay only half of her life, right?

Any other takes on that one? Anybody?

Only a small fraction of the egg cells will ever develop. They have more than they need, I don't think it makes much difference, unless you're hoping to hatch.

One of my smallest chickens (the white leghorn) has been routinely laying double yolked eggs and she will still lay the next day. She will lay 5 or 6 days a week - amazing! These things are huge and I really feel bad for her! The other day her bottom was bloody

but I think one day I will be surprised with a triple

I had been wondering if it will shorten her laying time as I had heard that they have roughly 1000 eggs that they will lay over a lifetime.

I believe any hen can lay double yolks. It's just the way their body/system delivers it sometimes. Double yolks I feel are very common. I recently had a triple yolker....the egg was huge and so were the yolks!

I was so excited about the size, I never thought of weighing it. It was so large that I couldn't close the carton!!

I have a Black Sex Link hen that I rescued along with three others from a breeder who had them living in absolute filth in a dark room with no light save a 25 watt bulb and they'd never been outside. It made me sick so I paid for them all and took them home. They all matured late for Sex Links but they're absolutely gorgeous birds now and all prolific layers. At 7-months old, the smallest one of the bunch lays a triple yolk egg every single day. Her eggs are so huge I wonder how she gets them out but she always does it quickly, no egg song, no fuss, just *plop*.
