Tropical storm-soaked to the bone

You guys have a lot of sympathy from the usually rainiest part of the country! (PAC NW)

When I heard the radio say "the tropical storm is headed over Florida for the fourth time" I just couldn't believe it!

We don't get TV (by choice), so unable to see pictures. Does anyone here have pics of the flooding?

The stupid TV kept telling me I was going to get up to 20 inches. I got a whopping 2.5 instead. Wind howled on Saturday, rained all day, but it was more of a Seattle mist than an actual RAIN. But now we've got a new hurricane to worry about. Those of us on the Gulf Coast should be keeping a close eye on this one.

It has rained so much today that I'm afraid I might see my chicken coop go floating by...seriously, I work in home health so today I have stayed in soaking wet scrubs all day.
There really is no graceful way to get in and out of a car in the pouring rain while trying to balance an umbrella and backpack with laptop!!!

Not sure how graceful I look, but I always roll down the window and stick the umbrella out and open it and then cover my door... carefully open door and switch hands with the umbrella and roll up the window... I'm sure you follow. Haven't had a laptop bag get wet yet!

Also.. got the roosters dried in this evening so to speak, we covered the rooster house with two 4X8 sheets of panelling and a heavy duty construction tarp new from Lowes.. they are no longer leaking.. YAY

Update this morning from Lexington, NC.. We have had total since Monday afternoon at 3:15 pm, I dumped the rain gage this morning at 6am, 13 inches of rain. It doesnt look like it will be letting up anytime soon.. I had to drive to High Point this morning at 5 am, Alot of people are trying to drive to fast and are ending up in ditches. Our road alone has several places where the water is across the road, these places are no less then 6 car lenths wide.. My poor driveway where it comes off the main road is flooded about 100 feet wide, at about 1 1/2 feet deep. It is deep enought that my car will stay parked and I will drive our Dually into town afterwhile.. I am not sure what the chickne pen looks like, yesterday everyone was dry other than 4 silkies, I put them in a rabbit cage to stay dry.. Hopefully the rain will move on out BUT I think it is suppose to rain til this afternoon.. Thank goodness my horses are on high grounds.. So how is everyone else doing this morning?

Here is what we are expecting today: They have flash flood warning up for us till 10:00. It is raining really good now and they don't expect it to let up till Friday. I know my garden needs it but give me a break, enoughs enough.

And just down the interstate here on the other side of the Smokies the rain has finally let up. We are still expecting more of it today, but for the moment, it's not pouring or even drizzling. Yesterdays soaked chickens are doing well, but MAN O MAN does their new run stink! Humidity/rain & chicken poop just don't go well with together do they!??!!! :|

Blech. Add to that all the food they've tossed out of the feeder that is now soggy on the floor of the run. Stinky and messy. Ugg.
Hopefully we will dry out soon and I can scrape the whole thing out and start over with dry shavings. I need to get my hands on some sand and just put that down.

We actually don't have much flooding in most places of Florida, even with the massive amounts of rain. The clay in our soil is quite deep so the amount of sandy soil over it absorbs much of the water. Usually within 24 hours, you can't even tell it rained. The exception is near the rivers where the land is already swampy. But of course, people still build houses there and then get all upset when they flood. It rained 4 inches in 1 1/2 hours last Sunday and in a few hours, you couldn't even tell it.
