Hi all.

We had a dog run into our yard and attack my black showgirl with satin feathers. I could see a little drop of blood on her face (looks like it may have come from elsewhere on her body) and there were definitely a good amount of feathers pulled out. Luckily I was there to intervene pretty quickly.

I’m having a really hard time examining her for injuries with her black skin and feathers. There’s nothing noticeable and I’m not even sure where the feathers came out of. Does anyone have tips or recommendations for examining her?

She’s acting normal next day and recovered quickly yesterday, but I’m still very worried about her.

Sometimes feel is better than sight. If she lets you handle her, check her over with your hands, feel for abnormal bumps, texture, crusted areas, pain response from the bird... it’s a good sign shes otherwise seeming to have recovered though! :)

Try using a flashlight to examine her. Good luck.
