Just venting: We moved here in 2019 and have been working on our house and homestead ever since. I now have my garden, orchard, craft studio, and poultry (chickens and turkeys) all doing well. I love hatching my eggs and putting the extras in the freezer, I love canning my garden produce, I love working on crafts, love grinding my own wheat berries and making sourdough bread, cooking from scratch, and reading and learning about such things. I have no one that I know that is into the same things I am. Oh I have friends and they find my interests "cute" but I can't talk to them about it. They don't want to hear about soil microbiome or stage of egg development. So, I enjoy their company and listen to what they want to talk about but I'm hungry for a senior like myself that gets what I'm passionate about. I mean, my husband is sick of listening to me (no he didn't say that but I can see his eyes glaze over). Do you have a circle of chicken friends or whatever you are into?

If you have a library reasonably close, you might reserve a room, put up some fliers, and try hosting a "chicken keepers get together" or something of the like. I found some local people with similar interests when I joined my local low-waste living group.
What a great idea, thank you!

Easier said than done, I know (I've been wanting to start a cinema group for ages). But it is fun discovering that people who share your interests are closer than you might think, but you might not otherwise cross paths with them.

BYC is my circle of chicken friends.

Welcome, by the way!

Go down to the bottom of this page and click on the links to Backyard Herds, Sufficient Self and The Easy Garden. You will find likeminded people on all 3 of those forums. Yeah, not the same as actual real life neighbors, but there are a lot of seniors frequenting those forums and we all support and encourage each other. We have a running joke on BYH that we seniors are in our “Prime”. 😁

Would love to see you over there.
