It actually depends more on the momma that raised them, in my experience. If they are raised by a hen that has been in your care for 2-3 years and she is very docile with you, the chicks will still be wary, but easier to handle than say chicks raised by a pullet or hen less than 2 years old. Becoming a mom changes them just like it does us. If they are younger, they depend more on their instincts than their experience. The breed also has a say. My Jersey Giants and Wyandottes are super calm. Leghorns, Anconas and even my 2 Speckled Sussex tend to be flighty.
