Hi! Having trouble identifying the breed of a couple of my 6-month-olds. Just when I think I figured it out, I see another photo which confuses me. Maybe someone can help me.

Here is the first pair. Roo and hen:

The next one is tougher. I can't get a closer pic because the two hens I have of this breed are so skittish - they won't let me get anywhere near them! They have a gold neck with gold and black body markings and a black tail. (The hen standing in front and very back - the one in the middle is a Golden Sex Link.)

They are laying medium-size brown eggs. At least I think they are - unless they are sitting on another breed's eggs. (I've caught them twice doing this - so I assumed they were their eggs?)

Thanks!

Talking to myself (I do this more often than not!)

I found this pic - and think my gold and black hens may be Campines? I'll have to read up on them. Not familiar with the breed at all!

The first one looks like a Birchin Marans. The golden pullets are either Golden Campines or Sicilian Buttercups depending on their combs.

Then they would be Golden Campines, they lay white eggs too btw, so you must have seen her over someone else's eggs.

That's it! Whaddya know? I own Marans! 5 hens and a rooster. Since ramirezframing's suggestion, I've been researching them online. Apparently, they come in a variety of colors, but the eggs confirmed it. Obviously, these are the hens which are presently laying. Their eggs are really dark - just like this picture I found online of Marans eggs.

Thanks everybody!
