So... I was curious how many of you had egg production drop when there was all that california, and Oregon fire smoke going through? I wasn't getting great egg production. Then it was hot. Then we had smoke so thick that you couldn't even see the mountains for like about a week. When that happened the egg production on my ducks went to zero.

It was a bit weird. They were getting plenty of feed. They are good ducks also. It was pretty hot and dry before the smoke rolled through. But that smoke was so thick.

The ducks kind of sit there panting in the shade from it.

I think the smoke dropped the egg production but can't really prove it (near the Rocky Mountains in the west). That was my main idea to bring up. And I was curious how many others experienced similar things.

Smoke messes with everything, including the amount of light they get. We're just now getting the smoke haze, better than the so-thick-you-can't-see-10ft stuff we had last year. Not that the season is over.

Thank you for reminding me about the light thing. I'd forgotten that. It does make sense. Plus, their lungs should be affected by it. That fire, those fires I should say are still going too. Right now its fairly clear but that could change at any time again while that Dixie fire is still going.

Yes- we went through weeks of close fires last September - happily we didn't see the flames but we were right in the dumping ground of the smoke from the fires raging on both sides. The only relief the smoke brought was lowering the temperature- it had been supposed to hit 100s for multiple days- and because the smoke was so thick, it was in the mid-60s instead, so that will tell you what the smoke can do, leaving the impacts to eyes, lungs etc. out of it! Sorry you're in the thick of it - I've got all my fingers and toes crossed we get a reprieve this year.
