I have an injured 2 year old female swedish black duck who has been recovering from a broken leg , all of a sudden 1 of my 2 geese keep picking on her and chasing her when she isn't suppose to walk too much :(( I am afraid they will start attacking my other animals too eventually. I have 6 hens, and 2 call ducks much smaller than they are..is this something I should worry about,or are they picking on her cause she's injured, and that's usually whet birds do..I'm scared of her getting more injured so she's alone now :(

are geese aggressive towards others of another kind??

It is probably that she looks or sounds different, or that she's been gone for awhile so they have her marked as "Doesn't Belong". Mine last year picked on my new pullets until they had been there long enough to be classified as normal. They also did not particularly care for the new ducks that I bought, until the ducks had been here long enough to calm down and act more "normal." Geese really hate anything "DIFFERENT".

If I have a bird with a foot/leg/movement issue, I usually put them with a friend of the same gender, into a seperate pen with food / water / shade as necessary within the big chicken yard. That simplifies reintroducing them when the issue gets better. They get their rest and still can see and be seen by all the other birds. When they are all better and I can let them out, there usually are minimal squabbles. I love the metal puppy pens -- we've had some for about 6 years and I use them for everything from rabbit play times, to confining sick birds.

My geese live with tiny bantam Silkie chickens, and their occasional chicks (whenever they can hide a nest long enough to hatch some out), large chickens, and my Welsh Harlequin Ducks. They don't bother any of them (besides the normal goose bossy thing -- I get the pond first, that sort of thing). I'd think your other birds are fine and the duck will be fine as soon as she's been around long enough and healed up enough for them to be used to her. Try to give her another female duck to hang out with and keep her in a small enclosure as near as possible with the other birds.

Thank! I also have mine with silkie bantams as well!! and 2 call ducks! I was told by someone that I should get rid of my geese bercaue they will kill everyone and everything :(( made me sad...but it's good to know w e have similar animals! thank you,,

I am putting her in a huge crate till she heals more..poor thing,,she's also molting and looks horrible on top of it all!
