Born June 3rd...so 10 days old today. I have put some dirt in it just to provide some natural grit...she is pecking and eating it. The odd thing is, this chick will eat most anything that is NOT chick food. She will eat a blueberry, cooked summer squash, cooked green bean, blackberries, mealworms and pickled red cabbage....sometimes cooked egg yolk. She will pick at the crumble that I moisten for them...but she does not eat it like the other one...and she definitely doesn't fill her crop at all...maybe 1/6th of what the other one has.
She preens, plays, flies around, jumps up and perches on things...but when I feel her crop it spongy and hardly the size of a large blueberry where the other chick has a walnut sized crop when she fills it up, it is very visible, firm and seedy feeling even when she has just eaten the mush (moist crumbles).
Has ANY one had this issue? What did you do? Is it possible that she will grow out of this and be okay with her weird diet?
