Hello and happy new year from Texas!

I have a 1.5 year old RIR in my flock who seems unwell. She just went though her first molt and took a break from laying for about two months. This week she began to lay again but this morning, she passed a broken egg. There was a small amount of blood, we were able to gather what seems like all of the shell.

Now she is slow moving and puffed up. There were no signs of any issues prior to this morning. Yesterday she was her normal, spunky self.

My flock is currently eating 20% protein all flock feed and free range for around three hours per day. They have access to oyster shell and I did give her calcium tablets this morning.

Any ideas on what to do next? Thank you!

I would give her the calcium again tomorrow for a total of 7 days. Calcium citrate with D3, at a dosage of 300-600 mg is okay. She may just be experiencing a problem coming back into lay.
