We have large trout in our pond (some are 18") and are expecting ducklings any day now. Just wondering if anyone has had problems with trout or other fish eating the baby ducklings and if so, if anyone has any suggestions about preventing this. Thanks!!!

I know there are fish that eat ducklings. Don't know how old they have to be to be safe. I suppose having a mother duck with them might help. I would keep them penned for a while.

Fish will definitely eat ducklings! Beyond a shadow of doubt! So will turtles and I have heard large bullfrogs. We did have a problem with this growing up in one of our large ponds, but it was with carp, not trout. I'm not sure if trout get big enough. Maybe someone else that knows more about fish can answer that. You might err on the side of being cautious and keeping them off the pond until they are at least a few weeks old (if not longer).
