Troyergals Chat Thread!!!

Thanks :) I'm gonna need it lol. Wow FIFTY!!!!! That stinks that you need to Cull some, but you gotta do what ya gotta do. The two roosters that I got rid of.... Well that's what I did to them. It was my first culling. I have 2 ducks and I feel like they are a handful :lau I do let them wonder around the house though and they will follow behind me. I guess it makes up for the huge mess they always make :D

Aye.

Yep. Yeah, I especially hate culling females. :( I could keep them just for eggs but then if I ever wanted to hatch I'd need to make two coops.

:)

I get that a lot. :p It's a lethal gene, if they get two copies of it they either die before hatch or are seriously deformed and die. I hatched one not too long ago, it had a giant lump on its head and only one eye, it made it a day. It's not so much I don't want crest it's more along the lines of it is not practical for me to keep both crested drakes and hens (or many anyway) I'm trying to breed my ducks to do really well with little maintenance and as little food as possible and can find 80+% of its food so it's not practical for me to breed ducks that'll die or have problems. Make sense?
Makes total sence.

Thanks!

Does this just show in Pekins?

Yeah culling females would be hard. I read one of your previous post on why you don't like to keep to many ducks with crest. That seems like a good reason.

Yeah, since it's the eggs I'm after. I could cull the drakes but they all have names. :barnie Oh well, I'll probably keep all the crestless from this last batch and sell the crested three day olds and 12 week olds.

Yep. It's mutation of the skull where there's actually a hole that's only covered by a flap of skin and that skin is what causes the crest, even if they aren't double crested they can have a lot of problems.
Thanks, I will pass all this down to my sis (she is the duck person), She liked the crest and even wanted some ducks with it.
