Water has no friction to stop it from moving so it needs a seal to keep it from flowing out. Feed, on the other hand, has a lot of friction, so you do not need a top on it.

No I don't. I will have to take one. I have two 5/16th holes on the bottom. It is set down in an oil pan and I have a lid on it.
Oh one of those. I don't have much experience with those, just the nipple waterers. Which work quite well. One five gallon bucket lasts 80+ Chickens one day and one night, one five gallon bucket lasts 30 ducks one night.

It will not come out...
So you must have a leak....
