Troyergals Chat Thread!!!

Oh, I wanted to tell you guys, if the ducks continue to lay and no one moves or strikes again I should have just under 30 eggs to pop in the cooker! :yesss: around nine should be Big Mama's if she doesn't take a day or two off. :fl

Interesting thing I've started to see a pattern with is the egg laying, they'll start laying and the eggs will be giant 70-80 grams and as they continue to lay they'll get smaller 50-40 grams, when they hit that size they take a week or two off and when they start back up the eggs are big again. :hu I don't know why. It take four or five months for the size to drop. I thought it was supposed to be the other way round?

Cool! :weee

Weird, but makes sense. You know how the eggs are always darker right after a molt? Maybe its the same thing with size :hu

:hu That's odd :/ That's a HUGE egg. I only have one chicken laying and it's like a small sized egg :th That big of an egg would be a miracle :)

Maybe. They didn't really go through a molt this time though, just stopped, waited about four or five days and started up again. :hu

Yeah, gotcha. Hey, I've never noticed patterns with egg production farther than "it all but stops when the whites go broody" :lau Dot AND Parakeet are both broody right now

We have a BSL who would lay eggs that were always 70 grams + when she laid. EVERY. SINGLE. EGG :TH Batgirl... A 50 gram egg was little for her  gotta love an overachiever :yesss:

Hold on brb

If you've fot a duck and drake or two ducks she'll lay eggs that size. Duck eggs are huge, I get a compression to a store egg tomorrow, my duck egg yolks are about 3 times as big as the store chicken eggs. Big Mama, well she's laid 90+ gram eggs.

Lol. Nice. I had three attempted broodies so far this year, big Mama, Lady Elaine, Pekin, and my Swede. Lady Elaine co sat with Big Mama last year. I expect Big Mama will try another brood later in the year.
