Well, I'm back! What did I miss, because I'm not reading through 750 unread posts.
The family reunion was wonderful, it was held on a small farm with some beef cattle, 15 chickens, 2 ducks, a huge farmhouse, and beautiful gardens. She had 2 Cochins (1 blue and 1 black), one had three babies and the other was broody, 1 Barred Rock hen, 1 Red Star hen (she was broody), one Jersey Giant hen, one Polish Bantam rooster, one Black Copper Maran rooster, 2 black copper Marian hens, one Buff Orpington, one Easter Egger. She sent me home with 7 BCM eggs, and 5 Cochin crosses for one of my broodies! Super eggcited.
I now have two broodies! One Speckled Sussex and one Buff Orpington. My dad didn't know how to handle them, so I threw out 32 eggs when we got home, and they are now sitting in clean nesting boxes with herbs, and 11 eggs apiece.
And we have one free range pig at the moment. I'm so mad at him, can't wait to sink my teeth into his bacon......if we ever catch the brute.
