They do better with a job yes but they don't need an exhausting job, they'll be happy with just odd and ends. If you want them to herd the chickens or watch the horses they'll be fine with that. Some people even have them in big cities, just gotta get the right one. They are A TON of work the first two years though, not only do they need physical exercise they need mental exercise.
