Ok, it just came out of the oven. I tried a little, and it tastes a bit..... odd. Not inedible, and will no doubt be better with frosting, but I was expecting it to taste just like normal chocolate cake. Is that wrong? Did I make a mistake?

You might just need to use a bit more honey.
We use raw honey that is very potent, so I think that makes a difference.
But, make sure and let it rest overnight. The flavors really do pop more the next day.

Also, if you are used to eating more of the processed type chocolate cake or really any deserts using sugar and white flour, this can affect how you "taste" this cake.
We have been clean from processed foods for a couple of years now, and if we do taste something sugary, it about knocks me over.
I actually feel assaulted by the strength of the processed stuff.

Ok, I'll try more honey next time. It's not bad, just not quite what I was expecting. And you want me to wait until TOMORROW to eat it

Um, no.
