I really love my nikon, it is easy enough to use as a point and shoot on the auto settings, but it is not lightweight or an easy to carry around camera. It gives great options for additional lenses and getting as "professional" as any amature would want.

My husband needs an easy lightweight portable point and shoot camera for his work and after researching what was available we settled on a fuji finepix f3000 exr. It has 15x real zoom (not digital zoom) takes awesome pics is very portable, and is a less price point. All the independant reviews give it the highest marks on nearly everything. It doesn't have changable lenses, but it does have the ability for more manual controls then a typical point and shoot. Here are a couple of pics I took w/ it recently.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share that info with me. Sounds like exactly what I was hoping (but not sure I would) find - small, lightweight, but great close up and zoom ability.......

In a spontaneous moment of trying to cross something off my suffocatingly long 'to do' list, current camera all but done working, and without doing the homework I would do if I had a moment to breathe, and therefore not knowing what I should know going into this, I bought a 'one day special' from TV (from a show I truly never watch but saw it while channel surfing) - a new model Olympus SZ-11 14MP 20X zoom (now not sure which kind of zoom because no manual comes with the camera so I have to research it - I know, not smart of me) 25mm. So new, there were no reviews yet. I haven't even had a chance to use the camera yet (it's been in the house for weeks) but now see reviews that are not reassuring at all so think I probably will return it in favor of something tried and true, like the one you mention. Returns okay for a little while longer...

I googled 'fuji finepix f3000' exr and couldn't find anything, nor could I find on Fugi's website. I am probably doing something wrong.......

Thanks. I had done that but the only f series that came up (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/) were:
FinePix F600EXR
FinePix F605EXR
FinePix F550EXR
FinePix F505EXR
FinePix F500EXR

Maybe the f3000 you wrote doesn't refer to f series.....
I feel badly bothering you about this when you were trying to help me! I would send chocolate through with this note if I could

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z710 (10Xzoom) that is mostly automatic....
But it seems to go dead so I am not very happy with it,
bc when I get to shooting- it goes out.

Also have gotten a Cannon Rebel DSLR XS- but i am totally intimidated with,
so need to get out & shoot the heck out of things with it so I can get comfortable
with it. I got it bc I would like to get zoom lens.

Those cannon rebels are amazing! Sorry im late getting back to everyone, work has been rather busy. Awesome shots that y'all have! I thank God that the area I live in is still full of wildlife. Owls, hawks, geese, ducks, quial, all kinds of predators, and even black bears and mountain lions are roaming back in. Which I will be postin 2 pictures here soon that are of a bear and lion. The bear was maybe 10 miles from my house on my brothers game cam and the lion came from Smith Mountain lake. Sadly the pictures I had on my moultrie were....ehh.....mooed over *had to say it*. The cows took an amazing interest in it and the last 3 pictures are of sky...cows tongue..they large black thing and wham..no more pictures taken -_-. Who wants fresh steak?

I am so glad this thread made the monthly BYC news letter. Great pictures everyone. I have a few, too.

Her is a Sandhill Crane. I near Grand Rapids Michigan and they migrate over the area and one stayed on the wetlands near out home all summer.

When we lived on the east side of the state we saw turkeys all the time. Here is one of the more impressive photos taken from the kitchen window.

My husband got this photo of a captive bald eagle.

This is from a dried up creek. When it isn't dried up we like to search for old sharks teeth in it since long ago that area was underwater. Sometimes we find mosasaur teeth and the day I got baptized in the creek I found a pure white bird arrowhead just sitting there on the sand as if it had just been dropped there. It was amazing.

Here is a vulture flying off. We walked into an old house and looked around the corner and this female vulture flew at us! She was on a nest and one of the eggs was hatching and making this weird shreaking noise. I didn't want a baby vulture being imprinted to me so I left.
