Trying again for an answer to choosing geese and housing them...

Well I would love to have a parrot but they live 50 years and I am already 68 with no one to inherit a parrot. I expect some of my geese will outlive me but I have homes lined up for them.

Geese are never big enough to protect themselves. If you want to leave them out at night, etc. that's fine -- I do. But you should know and understand that there are risks in doing so. They can get attacked by even relatively small predators and be injured or killed.

I am waiting on my order of Embdens and some "pure" Khacki Campbells. Can't wait to see how the geese will be once they get some size. Here in Florida, you must watch out for birds of prey, dogs, cats, foxes, and even snakes when you have ducklings or goslings turned out and without any protection. Anyone raise Embdens and where do you put them at night? I ask only because I have neighbors and I'd like to keep the geese quiet in the late evening and until morning. Maybe a "soundproofed" building of sorts.....Bob

I'm just teasing, but seriously... how many are you getting?

Sorry Goosedragon, my bad. Sometimes I am a bit thick.

I like your point about the pecking order - makes good sense.
Time to go wash out the rubbermaid trunk, figure out a 2nd stage brooder set-up and build and island for the ducks. Gotta build a waterer platform, too. Maybe I'll do better with having my goose shed ready when they are than I was with the coop for my chickens.

Getting excited!!
